MASQUE SOUND’S MATTHEW PESKIE WINS 2017 CRAFTSMANSHIP AWARD FROM METROPOLITAN BALTIMORE’S BUILDING CONGRESS & EXCHANGE

Posted On September 20, 2017 By masque In News /

Masque Sound, a leading theatrical sound reinforcement, installation and design company, is pleased to announce that Matthew Peskie, installations department manager, has won the 2017 Craftsmanship Award from the Building Congress & Exchange of Metropolitan Baltimore for his work on the Baltimore Center Stage building renovation project.

“It is an honor to receive this prestigious award from such a highly respected organization,” says Peskie. “The Baltimore Center Stage renovation could not have been accomplished without the hard work of my amazing team at Masque Sound and the incredible contractors and vendors that were involved in the project. I am extremely grateful to the Building Congress & Exchange for this wonderful recognition and am very proud of the final result. The building looks and sounds fantastic.”

The primary goal of the 160-year old building renovation was to upgrade the building’s Pearlstone Theater and provide a major overhaul of its Head Theater. The focal point of the renovation was the installation of a new audio-visual system that would allow Baltimore Center Stage to bring their performances into the 21st Century and to completely transform the theater, lobbies and lounges based on whatever show the company is set to perform.

Peskie and his team at Masque Sound were responsible for installing and implementing the new audiovisual components initially designed by the theater consultant, CharcoalBlue. This included the installation of over 296,000 feet or 56 miles of wire, 118 speakers, 146 custom powder-coated AV panels and seven AV racks. The new AV equipment for the Head Theater needed to be tied into the existing Pearlstone Theater’s infrastructure. Tying two different theaters to one another is a challenge in and of itself. Making things even more difficult, a portion of the Pearlstone Theater’s AV system was mistakenly removed as part of the demolition. Peskie not only integrated the two venues but was also able to repair and update parts of the AV system within the Pearlstone Theater.

For more than 79 years, Baltimore’s Building Congress & Exchange has honored and recognized individuals within the construction industry for their exemplary skill and outstanding workmanship. Each nominated project is judged based on overall craftsmanship, including the quality of work, complexity of both technical and design challenges, and the level of difficulty with site conditions, constraints and time frame.
