History

Masque Sound comes from a rich tradition, from its founding in 1936 through the present. Masque Sound was started by three Broadway stagehands. They purchased a small record label and began to produce sound effects records and rent sound equipment for Broadway shows. The business soon expanded beyond rental and effects records and toward providing complete audio systems for live entertainment. In the early fifties, Masque Sound became the first company to adopt tape technology for the theater.

Since its beginning, Masque has provided sound for the majority of Broadway shows and first-class touring productions. Some of the early productions included Oklahoma, South Pacific, Grease, and Cats. More recent productions include The Phantom Of The Opera, Les Miserables, Tommy, Rent, Mamma Mia!,The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Spring Awakening and Jersey Boys.

Masque Sound remains the leading provider of sound equipment for Broadway shows and continues to adopt leading edge technologies advancing live sound reinforcement.

Masque Sound also provides complete sound reinforcement solutions for television productions, sporting event shows, corporate events, special events, live concerts, and conventions.

In 2002, Masque Sound acquired Professional Wireless Systems to offer direct, secure solutions for performance and technical RF communications.

Today, Masque Sound is guided by the leadership of Geoff Shearing, grandson of one of the original founders. The Shearing family is dedicated to continuing the tradition of excellence and innovation that began over 75 years ago.
